Projects & programmes

Our projects are short, practical and aimed at needs on the ground: keeping the knowledge alive, practising it together and giving it a permanent home.

Tembe u Duen u Vesen: the annual congress

Each year Gba’Aôndo U Tiv holds its annual congress, Tembe u Duen u Vesen. Its Central Planning Committee works to spread word of each congress among stakeholders, build interest in it and advance the teaching of Tiv spiritual thought. See upcoming events →

Heritage land for the community

To give our heritage a permanent home, our Royal Patron has donated two hectares of arable land to the initiative: to preserve the timeless heritage of the past and keep it a vibrant, useful part of the present. The next steps are to fence the land and begin building. This project serves heritage preservation, community empowerment and responsible long-term stewardship. Support the project →

Bi-monthly educational forums

Every other month, on the last Saturday and Sunday, we hold educational forums on the Gba’Aôndo U Tiv social media platforms, including lessons on the Tiv sacraments.

Bi-monthly practical activities

We celebrate our traditional and spiritual observances together and practise the sacraments, for example Ityumbun, Mnkulem ma wan shin ityo and Ichongo i eregh, and we keep the remembrance days of our Tiv ancestors.

Authentic ceremonies

We coordinate authentic Tiv traditional ceremonies: weddings, burial rites, rituals and rites of passage, carried out with the knowledge and care they require. Ask us about a ceremony →

Cultural emergency

The wounds of an ailing culture need more than reconstruction or short-term aid. Gba’Aôndo U Tiv offers what binds a people together again: shared knowledge, shared practice and a shared identity.

Our approach

We build on local conditions rather than replacing them. Our work is not to change the way communities relate to their heritage, but to create an open framework in which decaying traditions can recover and grow on their own terms. We keep refining this model so it can be repeated and scaled, and we share what we learn so that good practice in cultural preservation is open to all.
